Hale County Traffic Court Records
Where you got the ticket decides where the case lives. A citation from Plainview, Abernathy, Hale Center, or Petersburg police normally opens in that city's municipal court. Ticket the county patrol wrote outside city limits? That case may sit with Hale County Justice of the Peace Precinct 1 or Precinct 3. Both handle fine-only matters filed beyond city jurisdiction. The JP1 office and the JP3 office each publish their own contacts.
Hale County Tyler Odyssey carries the label Civil and Criminal Public Access. Yet it is not a shared index for city tickets. Every municipal clerk keeps a separate docket. Check the court name before you search. Otherwise you may come up empty for a case that exists.
Four Hale Municipal Ticket Courts
Each city court in Hale County handles access its own way. Plainview runs a working citation search with online payment. Abernathy promises a payment portal soon. For now the clerk handles it the old way. Hale Center takes phone and mail requests, and the court posts no public search online. Petersburg works from the ticket itself and a session docket taped up at City Hall. For the county-level route, the official Hale County home page lists public access. That service sits alongside its other court services.

That county route is real, but it does not change the starting point. A city ticket still begins with the municipal clerk who holds the file. A precinct ticket stays with its justice court.
| Court | First route | Fallback |
|---|---|---|
| Plainview | Tyler citation search | Municipal clerk |
| Abernathy | Citation | Phone, counter, mail |
| Hale Center | Phone | Written request |
| Petersburg | Ticket and posted docket | City Hall |
Looking Up a Traffic Ticket
Start with the search field that reveals the least about you. Plainview's official search takes a citation number and birth date first. It also offers paths by license, vehicle, personal name, Social Security number, or business name. The site promises no particular citation-number format. You cannot pull document images from it.
- Read the issuing court and appearance date.
- Open only that court’s official search.
- Try the citation number before broader fields.
- Call or visit the clerk if no match appears.
- Confirm setting, status, amount, and deadline.
Two state tools, re:SearchTX and Hale County Odyssey, can help with a case filed in a higher court. Neither one covers a municipal ticket, though. For that, the Plainview city clerk is still the office to contact.
Plainview Citation Search Fields
Plainview splits its citation search into separate routes. A visitor picks one before running anything. Each route returns municipal citation status only, not a full Hale County docket. View the city citation-search source to see the current options on the official screen.

The official screen lays those choices out before a search is submitted. Picking the citation number first is usually the fastest path, since it pulls one case straight up.
| Path | Fields |
|---|---|
| Citation | Number and date of birth |
| License | Number, state, and birth date |
| Vehicle | Plate and state |
| Name | First, last, and birth date |
| Business | Business name |

Hale County Traffic Court Dates
That date printed on your ticket is a starting point, not a promise. In Petersburg, look for it at the bottom right. Sessions there usually fall on every other Monday. Holidays and vacation schedules can push them around, though. Abernathy treats the date on the citation as controlling. So plan around what yours actually says.
| Citation | Use the number with the issuing court; format not published. |
|---|---|
| Court | The municipal or justice court holding the case. |
| Date | Appearance or later trial setting. |
| Place | Address or posted session location. |
| Status | The current state supplied by the clerk. |
A reset only moves the hearing to a new date, so confirm any change with the clerk before you drive to court.
Petersburg Posts Its Docket
Petersburg makes its docket easy to check. The Petersburg court page posts the session docket by 10:00 a.m. on the Friday before a Monday session. A paper copy sits in the glass case outside City Hall's front door. Treat that list as a short-term calendar only. It shows upcoming hearings, not the full case history. Sessions run every other Monday from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m., but the city warns that dates shift, so call 806-667-3461 before you go.
Pay or Contest a Ticket
Paying a ticket and fighting it are two different roads. Plainview posts links for deferred disposition, a driving safety class, teen court, pleas, and payments, and your eligibility and costs will turn on the court's current rules. Abernathy takes another route: a not-guilty plea must be filed in writing before the court sets a trial before a judge or jury.
| Pay | Contest |
|---|---|
| Ask what plea payment records. | Enter a not-guilty plea as directed. |
| Use the approved court channel. | Receive a trial setting. |
| Keep proof and confirm closure. | Confirm judge or jury request. |
Do not ignore the date: Abernathy warns that failure to make contact can produce a Failure to Appear charge and arrest warrant. Follow the date on the citation.
When Hale Odyssey Finds Nothing
An empty search result is not the final word on a Hale County traffic ticket. Plenty of citations never touch the county system at all, because a city officer writes them into the municipal court docket instead. Pick up the phone before you give up: Plainview at 806-296-1100, Abernathy at 806-298-2546, Hale Center at 806-839-4451, or Petersburg at 806-667-3461. When you call, the clerk will ask for the name, birth date, citation date, and issuing agency. Save the Hale County case lookup for situations where the facts point to a county or District Court filing rather than a city ticket.
Hale Traffic Record Custodians
Two different records track a Hale County ticket, and they live in different offices. The municipal or justice court holds the citation docket, which shows the case itself. The state licensing agency keeps the driver record. That record tracks points and license status apart from the court file. Want to know what happened in the case? Request the court file from the clerk.
| Point | Court record | Driver record |
|---|---|---|
| Custodian | Issuing court | State licensing agency |
| Shows | Citation, plea, dates, result, costs | State driving history |
| Access | Portal, phone, counter, mail | State request channel |
Hale County Copies and Fees
None of the Hale County municipal courts publishes a copy-fee schedule. You cannot count on one in advance. Plainview goes further. It warns that court costs vary by offense and tells callers to contact the court for the real number. One caution: the balance owed on a ticket says nothing about what a copy costs. A solid request names the person on the citation. Add the issuing agency, the approximate date, and any citation number you can read. Tell the clerk what you actually need. That might be a future setting, a plain case history, a specific order, or an authenticated copy.
| Item | Fee | Action |
|---|---|---|
| Plain copy | Not located | Ask issuing clerk |
| Certified copy | Not located | Confirm availability |
| Case costs | Varies | Get case-specific quote |
Call before you mail any money. Ask whether your copy needs certification. Ask what payment the clerk takes, how long processing runs, and how it will be delivered. Never send funds based on another court's price. The municipal or justice clerk who issued the ticket confirms its own rate and accepted payment type. Hale County sets no uniform terminal count, turnaround period, or copy cutoff.
Some questions need only a status check. Others need a copy order. A Hale County court docket entry can prove an event occurred. It holds nothing of the filed paper itself. So name the document you want, along with its title and filing date when you know them. When the clerk points you to another court, write down that court's name first. Get its phone and mailing address before starting the request again.
Copies never pause a deadline. If you are waiting on a record, answer by the citation date or the one the clerk confirms. For a matter that reached a higher court, the Hale County District Clerk or County Clerk may hold the file. Municipal and justice ticket files stay with the lower court that heard them.
Abernathy and Hale Center Fallbacks
Skip the online option in Abernathy. Its court page says a payment portal is coming soon, so work from the ticket, the phone, the counter, or mail instead. The counter is staffed Monday morning, Wednesday afternoon, and Friday morning. Anyone entering City Hall for court business, people and belongings alike, is subject to search.
Hale Center has no portal to use. Call the clerk, then send any written request to P.O. Box 532. Ask for the next date, your response options, and the copy terms. Never pay a Hale Center citation through Plainview's portal.
Municipal Court Record Terms
Plainview and Petersburg are not courts of record. Their clerks can still keep citation, plea, setting, order, result, and cost entries on the court docket.
- Docket
- The court’s ordered case and setting record.
- Disposition
- How the case ended.
- Reset
- A move to another date.
- Certified copy
- A clerk-authenticated copy, if offered.
